WHY SURFING?

Live For The Search.

Surfing as a play based activity, is beneficial to our overall mental and physical health. It is also great for improving levels of fitness, cardiovascular health and flexibility. Surfing is associated with relaxation and has a therapeutic effect. Giving the opportunity to escape daily routines, have fun, and relax, surfing offers a great way to find stress relief. Being out in the water gives students a natural break from this forever demanding, electronic world in which they are growing up in. Self-gratification and mindfulness are also reflected through surfing. This is a skill that has a huge positive effect to the overall mental health of our youth. Surfing can be classified as a gross skill, incorporating almost every muscle group. It is also an open skill that has many variables and components. Surfing is largely unpredictable as no two beaches or waves are the same. Surfing, in particular the skill of standing up on the board can be basically broken up into; laying on the board, pushing up and transitioning onto the knees (for beginners), then jumping up onto their feet and balancing and twisting. An experienced surfer will be fluent in this skill and it would all seem to be one motion. Experienced surfers are able to manipulate their surf boards and do turns with ease. Beginners to surfing are really stiff in their movements and clearly break down each fundamental movement skill into sections. Surfing is not an overly mechanical skill however the majority of learning is done through experience. This experience gives beginners feel for the type of waves they are dealing with and also the dimensions of the board that they are on.

If you want to be able to teach a life long skill that will benefit students both mentally and physically, than teaching your students how to surf is the perfect solution. Within this website, all the information and knowledge on how to teach surfing to students and why we teach it to them will be provided to you, so what are you waiting for, get reading!
